The Story of La Llorona
A 15 minute opera scene commissioned by OK City Opera Company in Oklahoma City. For Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Tenor, and Piano.
When I was a little girl growing up in Central Texas, my family would go camping out by Belton Lake. We would typically go once in the spring, and again at Halloween. We would sit by the fire, roast marshmallows, tell stories, and take the secret path with the tree root steps down to the edge of the lake. It was on one of those Halloween camping trips that I was introduced to the story of La Llorona, and it was that experience that served as my inspiration for this scene.
